The historic Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal runs through Torfaen for 8.5 miles.
Torfaen Council owns and manages 4.5 miles, between Bridge 47, in Sebastopol, to Pentre Lane, towards Malpas.
We want to ensure the canal offers something for everyone and harness its potential for the future.

Staycation Destination
Restore from Newport to Brecon to boost bnb opportunities for business in Torfaen. Create a holiday Destination. Work will need to be done to reconnect the canal, for example near the fire station on henllys way. A full working order restoration won’t be cheap but it will pay for itself and protect the environment for future generations and habitats for wildlife

Open up the canal and fully restore
I would love to see the canal fully restored down to Newport, to allow boats to use it Fully, towpath and offside cleared back to its original state

Work with schools to do workshops on wildlife or conservation projects

Better lighting on the canal for late night walks. Also place toilet facilities on the canal and encourage people to clean dog mess- bins
