Create a Buzz - wildflower survey
Create a Buzz – Help us make Torfaen blossom!
Do you know a grass verge, green space, community corner, or unused patch of land that could be transformed into a haven for bees, butterflies and other wildlife?
Create a Buzz is inviting local residents to nominate sites for wildflower planting or amended cutting regimes, to encourage wildflowers across Torfaen. across Torfaen. By working together, we can create beautiful spaces that support nature, bring communities together and make our neighbourhoods nicer places to live.
Nominate a site
We're looking for locations that could be enhanced with wildflower planting, whether it's a grass verge, open green space, community area or another suitable site. Just click on the map to suggest a place.
If you know a location that could help nature thrive, we'd love to hear from you. Pop a pin in the map, leave a comment or email veronika.brannovic@torfaen.gov.uk You can also let us know if you’d like to get involved in planting.
Adopt a Wildflower Patch
Want to get even more involved? As part of Create a Buzz, we're also looking for volunteers to adopt wildflower patches and help to look after them. Just fill in a short form and one of the team will be in touch for a chat!
By adopting a patch, you'll play an important role in helping the wildflowers thrive. Volunteers can help by keeping an eye on their site, reporting issues, removing litter, sharing photos, and helping us celebrate the amazing wildlife that these spaces support. You could go a bit further and take part in the annual cut and collect of the sites with training and support through this project.
You don't need to be an expert – just someone who cares about nature and wants to make a positive difference in their local area. It's a great way to learn about local wildlife, meet like-minded people, spend time outdoors and contribute to a greener, more nature-friendly Torfaen.
Whether you're an individual, family, community group, school or local business, we'd love to hear from you.
Together, let's Create a Buzz and help people and nature flourish across Torfaen!
Submit your site suggestion today and help make a difference for wildlife and for people.

Why wildflowers matter
Wildflower meadows and pollinator-friendly planting provide many benefits:
- Benefit health and wellbeing by connecting people with nature and creating enjoyable places to walk, relax and spend time outdoors.
- Support bees, butterflies and other pollinators that are essential for healthy ecosystems and food production.
- Boost biodiversity by providing food and shelter for a wide range of wildlife, like hedgehogs and blackbirds.
- Improve the environment by helping to absorb rainfall, improve soil health and store carbon.
- Create beautiful spaces that brighten local areas and provide seasonal colour.
This project aligns with Mission Five of the Torfaen Deal: Empowered Communities, Shared Power and Success
Work alongside communities to capture their ambition and energy as we plan and deliver our services, creating the conditions for community resilience, self-reliance, and shared success
