Age Friendly Torfaen - Community, respect and inclusion

This short survey covers topics around community - whether you feel included, if you feel respected, and how easy (or not) it is to find out about community activities and support.

Survey closes 1/7/24

Social participation

Participating in leisure, social, cultural and spiritual activities in the community fosters seniors’ continued integration with society and helps them stay engaged and informed. Seniors’ participation in such activities, however, is affected by access to transport and facilities, their awareness of such activities and their affordability.

Respect and social inclusion

An inclusive society encourages older people to participate more in social, civic and economic life. This, in turn, promotes active ageing. Age-friendly initiatives to involve all seniors in activities where they have experience can keep them engaged with the community and help them feel valued in their community. Older people should always be consulted on decisions concerning them.

About you

It would be extremely helpful if you could finish by answering the following questions about yourself. This will help us understand whether we have reached particular groups of people and where we need to focus additional effort when we consult in future. This information will be stored securely according to Torfaen Council’s Privacy Policy (available on request). This data will be anonymised and will only be included in the published report to make statements such as:

X % of respondents were aged…

Y % of respondents identified as male gender

Z % of respondents have a disability, etc.

You will not be named and your personal data will not be available to anyone other than a small team of Council staff for the purpose of analysis and keeping you informed about the project, if you signal that you wish for this to happen.

A note about Sex and Gender:

Sex and gender are terms that are often used interchangeably but they are in fact two different concepts, even though for many people their sex and gender are the same. The World Health Organisation regional office for Europe describes sex as characteristics that are biologically defined, whereas gender is based on socially constructed features. They recognise that there are variations in how people experience gender based upon self-perception and expression, and how they behave. With this in mind…
