Welsh in Education Strategic Plan 2022-2032

Closed 30 Nov 2021

Opened 1 Oct 2021

Overview

We wish to ensure that all parents and pupils can access Welsh medium education of the highest standard.   As a county council, we have a clear vision for developing and expanding Welsh medium education and this is based on the following key principles:

  • To recognise every child’s right to learn through the medium of Welsh
  • To promote the highest standards possible in Welsh language provision
  • To promote the benefits of bilingualism.

The requirement to publish a Welsh in Education Strategic Plan (WESP) is set out in the School Standards and Organisation (Wales) Act 2013; this requirement includes a local authority’s proposals and targets to:

  1. Improve the planning of the provision of Welsh medium education in its area
  2. Improve the standards of Welsh medium education and of the teaching of Welsh in its area.
